Just a mile east of Mulegé central, on the north shore of the Mulegé River, is the colonia known as Loma Azul. “The Nest” is located on the western end of Loma Azul overlooking the river. Originally built in the late 1950’s as a home for the manager of the (now abandoned) hotel next door, the rustic, historic home was ready for demolition. When the current owners, Tom and Dana Studebaker, first saw the home in 2008 it’s fate was sealed. No demolition for this ugly duckling!….she was to be rebuilt to exceed her original glory. Ten years after that day, “The Nest,” a private casita above the new swimming pool with expansive views of the river, the Sea of Cortez and the mountains to the west, became available for you to enjoy.
Whether you are a traveler just passing thru Mulegé or a guest planning to stay a while, there are many opportunities for you to enjoy all that Central Baja has to offer. The owners have kayaks and snorkel gear for your use. The beaches nearby are within walking distance and there is a beach front restaurant just down the road. Bird watching is a favorite past time, with an active Osprey nest right outside your window. Your guest suite, with a king bed , also has a mini-fridge, a microwave and a coffee maker. There is also a barbeque on the guest patio. “The Nest” has it’s own private half bath. The heated shower is located on the pool deck 10 steps down. There is another half bath adjacent to the pool shower. The pool is not heated but is very comfortable in November, March, April and May. If you prefer to just relax, nap, read or play board games, there are several cozy nooks that serve that purpose.
The owner is a volunteer with P.A.W. Mulegé, the local spay and neuter clinic. Frequently she fosters rescued homeless dogs or cats preparing them for their future life as a pet. In addition to her own 3 rescued dogs, there can be a real menagerie on the property at times. However, the dogs can be kept separate from the guests’ area if that is requested. We welcome small, well behaved dogs in The Nest, but assume no liability for them. The entire property is gated for safety and security. Your vehicles and possessions are secure on site.
